On your home screen

There is nothing to download and no store to visit. Your browser makes the journal into an app itself: an icon that opens straight to the current issue, without the address bar.

iPhone and iPad

Open the journal in Safari — this does not work from Chrome or from a link opened inside another app. Press Share, the square with the arrow out of it, then Add to Home Screen, then Add.

Android

Open the journal in Chrome. Press the ⋮ menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app — Chrome offers whichever it offers — then confirm.

Desktop

In Chrome or Edge, an install icon appears at the right-hand end of the address bar. Safari on macOS installs from File → Add to Dock. Firefox does not install web apps, and the journal reads perfectly well as a page.

What you get, and what we get

You get the journal, and only the journal. Adding it to a home screen installs no software beyond the page you are already reading, asks for no permissions, sends no notifications, and can be removed by deleting the icon. It does not tell us that you installed it. There is nothing here that a bookmark does not do; the icon is simply a faster door.
